String Lasting

The upper is pulled down over the feather edge of the last and the lasting allowance is turned back under the last. The insole is used for lasting.

After closing the upper pieces together, a heavy string is sewn around the lasting edge of the upper. A special machine is used for sewing. There are also various ways to sew the string around the upper edge.

The upper is then placed over the last or over the metal mould feet.

Then the ends of the string are drawn tight so that the upper is pulled over the last. High-walled soles and moulded methods for shoe attaching are used.
