Force lasting

There are variations on force lasting. Sew-in-sock Construction ( also known as Strobel-stitched) is mainly used for the sport footwear.

The figure opposite shows a typical sewn-in-sock shoe. The sock is sewn directly to the upper. The sock is smaller than the size of the last bottom. This ensures that upper material is lasted underneath the feather edge of the last and therefore sewing of the sock are not seen. Because of the possible wrinkles at front and backpart of the feather edge of the last high-walled soles are used. Also moulded method is used.

Another method to connect upper and sock together is a Tubular Construction. It is used in our case study running shoe. This is mainly used for the running shoes. It is similar to moccasin construction where the whole upper covers also the bottom area of the shoe. In the tubular construction the bottom area is joined together by seam/s running under the upper.
