Middle sole materials
The midsole is sandwiched between the upper and the outsole, attaching
both. The midsole give the shoe heel lift, rocker and toe spring. The
midsole is very important for cushioning and shock absorbency.
Ethyl Vinyl Acetate (EVA) are commonly used as midsole material. Cellular,
or blown PU is used as midsole. Phylon synthetic material is used for
midsoles. It is light, flexible, elongation and impact resistance. EVA
and Phylon can compress to a moulded forme.
In the case study the Phylon midsole support the position of the foot
and adds to cushioning. The lightening cap in the centre of the midsole
orients the cushioning along the centre line of the sole and also saves
weight.
