Manufacture - Moulded soles

Moulded soles are now used on more than 70 % of the world s footwear (SATRA Bulletin, 2000). Soles are either directly moulded onto the shoe or made as units. For running shoes most often direct injection moulded or direct vulcanised method is used.

The figure opposite shows the construction of direct vulcanised method. As seen on a figure rubber soles that are directly attached to the upper.

  1. Shows the side clamps of the metal mould which are close later.
  2. Shows the bottom of the mould where the compressions is used.

Heat is involved in all moulds. The blank of the rubber is heated before placing into a mould. The temperature in the mould process is 150 to 180 C.
