Sweating
There are over 2.5 million sweat glands. They are all over the body,
large numbers are in the armpits (axilla), groin, forhead, palms of the
hands and soles of the feet. We lose heat from the body as heat is needed
to evapourate the sweat from the skin. In areas that are very arid (dry)
we sweat freely and can lose so much as to cause heat exhaustion or severe
dehydration.
Sweating is divided into two types
Insensible
All the time unnoticed much evapourated before it
reaches the skin surface
|
Sensible
When the body is likely to become overheated because
of exercise or in a hot atmosphere
|
Sweating is not under concious control
|
1.5 litres/day
|
Maximum loss about 10 litres with 30 grams of salt in a day (In
very hot air conditions)
