The subcutaneous layer or superficial fascia
is not part of the skin but appears as a deep extension of the dermis.
Depending on the region of the body and general state
of nutrition varying numbers of fat cells are present.
Abdominal layer may reach a thickness of 3cm or more.
Eyelids, penis and scrotum - the subcutaneous layer
is devoid of fat. This subcutaneous layer is where liposuction is undertaken
to remove subcutaneous fat.
Bruising occurs in this layer, crushing of blood vessels
in papillary layer leads to blanching not bruising.
