Non-woven fabrics
Non-woven fabrics are made from conventional raw materials by means
other than traditional weaving, knitting and lace making. The processes
attempt to eliminate the laborious and expensive stages used in traditional
processes. Essentially the fabrics are constructed directly from fibres
rather than yarns, although yarns may be used to bind the fibres together.
Consolidation of the fibres within the fabric may be achieved in a number
of different ways, both mechanical and chemical, for example felting,
needle bonding, stitch bonding, heat bonding and resin bonding.
